Habitat for Humanity, Charles Lafortune and the business community join at a Gala benefiting the construction of affordable housing
Habitat for Humanity Montreal organized a fundraising gala on May 17th at the Montreal Delta Centre-Ville in order to help fund its mission of building affordable houses for low-income hard-working families. The evening, hosted by comedian Charles Lafortune, welcomed more than 300 people entertained by a colourful circus show.
A large number of sponsors and business people participated at the successful event and allowed Habitat Montreal to increase the number of projects at short and long term. The funds raised throughout the evening help pay construction costs for the sites in the neighbourhoods of Saint-Henri, Mercier and Laval. These three projects will allow 31 new families to become homeowners.
“With the increase of the real estate price in the past 10 years in Montreal and the salaries that do not follow the same rhythm, the dream of becoming a homeowner becomes practically inaccessible for less fortunate working families. It is important for us to help families take control of their destiny”, stated Isabel St.Germain Singh, President and CEO of Habitat for Humanity Montreal.
Habitat for Humanity Montreal is an not for profit organisation that seeks to mobilize volunteers and community partners to build affordable housing and promote homeownership as a means to breaking the cycle of poverty. Habitat for Humanity international, present in more than 100 countries, has built more than 500 000 houses since its creation in 1976.
